[글로벌이코노믹 김대호 기자] 롯데그룹의 뉴욕 팰리스 호텔(The New York Palace Hotel)인수가 세계적인 이슈가 되고 있다.

이번 인수 작업은 신동빈 회장이 진두지휘했다.
뉴욕 팰리스 호텔은 미국 금융업의 대부였던 헨리 빌라드(Henry Villard)가 보유한 저택이었다.

1882년 처음 지어졌다.

이 자리에 호텔 문을 처음 연 것은 1980년이다

이후 해리 헴슬리가 55층짜리 호텔로 증축했다.

이름도 햇다. '헴슬리 팰리스 호텔'로 바꾸었다.

그때가 1982년이다.
1993년에는 브루나이의 국왕이 인수했다.

뉴욕 팰리스 호텔은 미국 뉴욕주 뉴욕시의 맨해튼에 있다.

맨해튼 중심가인 미드타운의 매디슨 에비뉴에 위치해 있다.

The New York Palace possesses a prestigious heritage.

More than a century ago, Henry Villard, one of the nation's most prominent financiers, commissioned McKim, Mead & White to create a residence of singular style. Constructed in 1882, that residence became known as The Villard Houses.

Over the next century, the residence would change from private homes to offices for the Archdiocese and later, corporate offices for internationally known companies.

In the mid-1970s, the Archdiocese of New York, owners of the land, cleared the way for a hotel development that would incorporate this unique property, gracefully blending the landmark 1882 Villard Houses with a contemporary 55-story tower.

The hotel opened in 1980 as The Helmsley Palace.

In 1993, the hotel changed ownership and again underwent a comprehensive multi-million dollar restoration and refurbishment program to position it as a landmark NYC luxury hotel.
